One of the main reasons people choose to stay at Maison De L'Orb in the area is the close proximity to the sandy white beaches.

The beaches close to Beziers-Cap d’Agde in the southern Herault department, Languedoc-Roussillon, are characterized by long swathes of sandy beaches and modern beach resorts which offer a range of good facilities. In particular the beach resort at Le Cap d’Agde – Languedoc-Roussillon’s premier beach resort – offers eleven excellent beaches giving plenty of choice of activities for all tastes and all ages. Le Cap d’Agde is also linked to the ancient city of Agde – well worth a visit for its delightful warren of streets in the old city centre with artisan shops and boutiques. The more southerly resort of Valras Plage offers a huge range of activities and fun for all the family and you can get here fro Beziers on a local bus costing a few cents. If large resorts are not your idea of a beach holiday, then you can try the smaller more secluded stretches of beach at Farinette, Redoute, Serignan, Vendres and Les Cabanes-de-Fleury. Here you will discover mile after mile of golden sand, family beaches, gay beaches and nudists beaches.

To the north of Le Cap d’Agde is the impressive saltwater Thau Lagoon, and here you will find a number of pretty fishing towns and villages and some lovely little beaches such as those at Marseillan Plage and Meze. and also the vast length of sandy beach leading up to one of our favorite towns, Sete.

Cap d’Agde

The Mediterranean resort of Cap d’Agde has long been a favorite with French holidaymakers looking for the perfect combination of great services and excellent beaches! There are a total of eleven beaches at Cap d’Agde to cater to every taste, from the naturist beach to the east of Cap d’Agde to the tranquil beach at Tamarissiere. This purpose built resort has been well thought out to cater for every need too – all the roads and traffic are set far back away from the beaches, while at the same time parking is easy and convenient with plenty of spaces and wooden walkways leading to the beaches, suitable for wheelchairs and push chairs. There are plenty of public conveniences, litter bins and easy signposting. Beach bars and restaurants are all just a stone’s throw away. And while you might just be there for the sand, sun and sea, you will appreciate the care that has been taken with the many green spaces that have been created around the beaches offering plenty of flora and fauna.

There is also loads of activities and things to do, including the brilliant Leisure Island offering a luna park rides and fun fair attractions, a waterpark with no less than nine slides, and aquarium, mini-golf, museums, walking trails, an underwater trail for snorklers, loads of different watersports and much, much, more!

Best for: just about everything

Access: south of Montpellier along the A9, take exit 34 to Agde then follow signs to Cap d’Agde on the N312 – go to the tourist office for a plan of the resort and then go get some serious beach action! Facilities: public toilets and showers, most of the Cap d’Agde beaches have bars/ restaurants Family-friendly: Yes, Le Mole is good for younger children whilst Plage de Roquille is where all the action is and Le Grande Conque is great for snorkelling Naturist: one naturist beach and village at the east end of the resort

Valras Plage

The 4 km beach at Valras-Plage is not everyone’s favorite – some cite that the modern resort developments along the beach are ugly and other say that it gets too busy for their liking, but actually the beach is really good. This wide swathe of sand at the estuary of the River Orb offers plenty of sporting facilities, including beach volleyball and football and the tourist office can provide you with a list of activities you can join. There are lifeguard services during the summer season, a crèche for children over 3 years old, and a rental places for jet skis, catamarans, motorboats, parascending and pedalos. You can also spend a lovely couple of hours on a boat trip on the River Orb. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, cafés and ice cream parlours to choose from, and on Mondays and Fridays there is a local produce market to enjoy.

Best for: good all-rounder close to Béziers Access: south-east of Béziers on the D64 Facilities: public toilets and showers, restaurants and bars, lots of sports activities Family-friendly: yes, lots to do, plenty of food options, can get a bit hectic Naturist: yes some parts
